I've never found purpose for the "If a tree fall in the forest does it make a sound?" riddle until today. Good ole Terry Jones just happens to be one such tree, and this time the media rushed to Gainesville, Florida to make sure everyone heard him. Jones is hosting "Burn the Koran Day" this Saturday and causing a ridiculous stir with it. Much speculation has been made that this is little more than a publicity stunt for a small church wanting to 'get on the map' rather than this being an act committed for the glory of the Lord.
Would I burn a Koran? Yes. I'd burn a lot of books that teach falsely about God (maybe even the 'Left Behind' series). But, it would be wise to do so like an unheard tree in the forest. "Be careful not to do your acts of righteousness before men, to be seen by them" (Matthew 6:1).
Jones, I do not fault you for your zeal, I question your motive and I am puzzled by your methods. Just cancel the stupid public burning and dispose of the books quietly. And, I equally blame the media for all the attention you have been granted for this event.
